Seoul
Ten million people, the biggest foreign community, endless food and nightlife, and the highest salaries. Apartments are the smallest in the country and competition for jobs is highest. Best for people who want the full big-city experience.
Gyeonggi-do satellite cities (Suwon, Bucheon, Anyang, Dongtan)
Our most recommended option for a first year. You are 30–50 minutes from central Seoul by subway, apartments are bigger, and there is already a teacher community in every one of these cities.
Busan and the coast
Beaches, seafood, a milder winter and a slower pace. Haeundae and Gwangalli are full of young teachers. Salaries match Seoul while rent-equivalent living costs are lower.
Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Jeonju
Regional hubs with real city amenities and noticeably cheaper daily costs — this is where teachers save the most money. Jeonju is Korea's food capital and a favourite for couple placements.
Jeju Island
Volcanic island, beaches, hiking and the mildest winters in Korea. Fewer positions, so apply early if this is your dream.
